As Jeff always says when I ask him how work was "very busy", and that is how we have been these past months. So here are some highlights from what I can remember.
MY CENTURY RIDE!- I rode my bike 100 MILES! It was in Fresno CA and the total elevation gain was 2650 feet. It was a lonely ride without my Dad that was still in the hospital recovering from the bike accident. It was also a good ride that was a big accomplishment in my life. Alex rode with me for about 45miles. then for about 35 mile I was adopted by this group of riding angels that made me thankful the biking community was a friendly one and they let me somewhat draft which cut down on my head wind and helped me finish faster and feeling better. The support along the ride was great and the after party was a little mellow but with the kids we just wanted to go swim in the pool anyways so it was great! the temp at the finish line was 84* so that is warm for finishing 100 mile so the cold unheated hotel pool felt great it was like an ice bath! It was also the first night that I have ever been away from Cj, him and Daddy and the little nut did great together. I stayed the night before and the family meet me at the finish line then we all stayed together the next night. this happened on 4-2-16.

HAZEL TOOK A BALLET CLASS!- It was so sweet her childcare signed her up for ballet and tap class that she went to with them every tuesday for about 12 weeks. She loved it! she would come home and put back on her leotard and shoes and dance for us. On the last day of class the parents got to come in and watch and she did a couple of little dances with the 7-8 other ballerinas. So sweet to see little 2-4year olds tap and ballet dancing. Girls are sometimes so sweet and cute!

EASTER-this year Easter was low key the easter bunny visited the kids and left them an Easter basket. We went to church and then visited my Dad in the hospital he was doing a lot better at that point and was able to go outside in the courtyard so we hung out there with him and my mom for a while then had a easy dinner. We also got to color eggs with my mom the friday before Easter which was fun for the kids.
even on easter sunday they don't stay in their seats 20160325_112124.jpg

02/20/16: New Pergola

Category: General

I'm finally getting around to posting this. Back in September 2015 my Dad came down to help me for a week to remodel our patio cover into a nice pergola. It took an amazing amount of work with adding almost 110 new pieces of wood. Each one had to be primed and painted. First we had to tear down all but the main supports of the original patio cover. Then all the support structure had to be reinforced and every surface sanded before the new wood could be put up. My poor dad had to labor in the heat in the midst of a 100 degree heat wave for many days. While at work I worried if he was still alive or if I would find him dead of heat stroke when we got home. I was only able to help fully the first day but a good amount of work got done before he had to leave. The rest of it was slowly done each day after I got home until finally after two weeks it was finished. Thanks Dad! Would have taken forever without you.

01/13/16: Time please stop

My heart is overflowing with love. I wish that I could stop time and enjoy these precious times with my two babies. I have enjoyed the Christmas break time with them so much. They are at a most wonderful age that is full of energy and happiness. A part of me doesn't want them to grow up. I love listening to them laugh with each other, Hazel has this special way to make Cj crack up and it is the sweetest sound to my ears. They are both happy and healthy kids with such sweet and tender hearts. Cj will come up and give sweet hugs and snuggles or sit on your lap and have you read him a book. Cj says "mama, dada, more "ma", wawa, no, ohoh, shhhh for the snake sound, done, and is working hard to say up. He was doing better at sleeping at night but he has a little cold right now so that makes his sleeping a little tougher for him. Hazel is still a social little girl and love playing with friends and watching other people. She loves to be the rule enforcer and lets me and Jeff know whenever Cj isn't following the rules. In the morning she will sweetly yell from her bed that it is morning and wait in her bed for us to come get her, although sometimes she will surprise us at the side of our bed before she makes any noise! They days are sometime really really long and tiring but over all this is the most precious time ever. I'm so blessed with more love than I can handle and I'm so thankful that Jeff and I get to go through this parenting thing together and for the wonderful children that my kids are.

11/24/15: Cj's boo-boo

Our little rough and tumble baby got 7 stitches on his 1st birthday!
It was a happy evening with his first birthday cake smeared everywhere on him, everyone was happy then it was bath time. Cj and Hazel were getting bathed by Daddy while Mommy cleaned up the kitchen after dinner. Then this horrible sound of a big heavy head hitting the hard porcelain bathtub echoed throughout the house. Sadly that isn't the first time that we have heard that noise. Followed by painful screams and cries. Mommy stops what she is doing to help out with the hurt one, just thinking that bathtime was done for that one and mommy would help get him in his jammie, while mommy walks into the bathroom she hears daddy say oh no this isn't good, mommy looks into the bathtub to see much blood covering Cj's face, pooled up in his eye and running down his cheek, at first no one can tell where the blood is coming from. Mommy and Daddy pat Cj's face dry and notice it is comming from a big gash in his eyebrow. Mommy continues to hold the screaming baby trying to put pressure on the wound and call the Dr. While Daddy finishes bathing the little nut. The pediatrician the kids go to does his own stitches so he says to come in and will meet us at his office, yay no ER visit! So mommy takes cj in and daddy puts hazel to bed. Cj does great at Dr. He screamed getting numb but then just laied there and let the Dr do the work. Mommy didn't like watching her baby get his cut all cleaned out and watched up so sometimes she had to look away. But everything went well and better than expected. Family is happy for medical professionals and with a boy this is probably not his last stitches. The stitches came out in 7days except for the two that he ripped out himself.

Jeffs wonderful aunt and cousin stayed with the kids one night and jeff and I had an adults only date at disneyland so we could go on a few of the grownup rides. Thinking back on the trip and remembering the fun times makes me want to go back :) if it were so expensive. I love these fun magical years were anything is true and the kids believe in pure magic and it reminded me how important it is to nurture and love these crazy times when the kids are so small and inocecent.

10/28/15: Hazel turned 3!!!

We had a big party for Hazel's 3rd birthday. It was so fun to plan with her and have her so excited for the party and a bounce house and all her friends. We had an under the sea theme and it was a lot of fun. It was hot that day so we had missters and water fun with squirt guns. Hazel was so happy I love how she shows her emotions with her whole body and how excited she is about life. Thanks to all the family and friends that celebrated with us. I can't believe that she is 3. Hazel you are so aware of what is going on around you and the most compassionate person I know, you can pick upon peoples emotions and want them to be happy. When we pass someone who looks sad or is crying you get very concerned and ask why. You tell mommy to slow down and relax if I'm getting stressed out. You like to negotiate. You go with the flow as long as we give you a warning that things are changing. You love your brother and help take great care of him. You are my little bundle of sweetness, and I pray and hope that sparkle and happy caring in you never goes away and that you continue to spread love and kindness all throughout your life. happy birthday to my baby girl, my hazelnut.

We had a great time at the Hovik family reunion at the end of July. We stayed at a hotel in Tahoe City and the weather was great. Hazel and I went on a short kayak ride Jeff and I SUPed, Jeff played golf the kids and I went to the shore beach, we spent time with family, swam in pools the kids and I played mini golf, went to a farmers market and took a little family walk. Hazel was so fun with her cousins and loved playing with them. Cj loved people holding him and we all enjoyed the vacation. The car ride up there was long but we all made it through, on the way back they slept in the car and it was much faster.

Cottonwood lake from roughly the same spot four years ago.

Cracks in the lake bed were over a foot deep. Had to step carefully to not twist an ankle.

This was our first campout with Connor. We had a grey fox pay us several visits. One time he ripped open our garbage sack and danced on our car. Another time the kids were asleep and it was dark, the fire was out and Amy took the sole flashlight to go to the restroom while I stood in the dark at our campsite holding our pillows. I had the sensation I was being watched. On Amy's return I saw the fox three feet in front of me starring up at me then as silent as a mouse scamper off. In the morning one of Amy's shoes was missing. The fox struck again but luckily Hazel and I found it about 30 yards away. We had a great time. These videos really sum up the relationship our kids have.
